The Rational Collector is a product of Lester Clark Design.
What our reports are
Each Rational Collector report is an independent due-diligence document prepared for the buyer of a specific pre-owned watch. It sets out our assessment of the watch and the listing in which it is offered – covering condition, provenance, transaction quality, market positioning and a composite score – and concludes with a clear editorial verdict. Every report is an original work of analysis and opinion, written and signed off under human editorial oversight.
How we gather information
Our analysis is built from publicly available information: manufacturer specifications, published market data and indices, auction results, and the details of the individual listing under review. We read these sources, cross-check the facts against others wherever possible, and form our own view. Where a particular fact materially informs our conclusions, its source is acknowledged within the report.
What we do not do
We do not copy, republish or reproduce third-party text, photographs, pricing tables or curated datasets. We do not harvest databases, and we do not access any website in a manner that breaches its terms of use. We extract individual facts – a reference number, a price, a market movement – and write our analysis in our own words. A factual data point is not the property of the source that reports it; the particular way that source expresses it is, and we do not reproduce that expression.
Human editorial oversight
Reports are produced with the assistance of analytical tools, but a human editor reviews the inputs, checks the outputs and takes editorial responsibility for every report issued. No report is published automatically or without that review.
Independence
The Rational Collector is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or acting on behalf of any manufacturer, retailer, grey-market dealer or auction house. We have no financial interest in whether you buy a particular watch, and our verdicts are not influenced by any third party. Where we assess a dealer or a listing, we do so on the observable facts and in good faith.
Not financial, investment or legal advice
Our reports are informed editorial opinion intended to support your own enquiries. They are not financial, investment or legal advice, and our verdicts – including any BUY, CONSIDER or WALK AWAY conclusion – are an expression of opinion, not a recommendation to transact or a guarantee of future value. A watch can fall in value as readily as it can rise. You should take your own advice before committing to any purchase.
The buyer’s responsibility
A report is prepared from the information available to us at the time of writing and reflects our judgement at that point. It is not a substitute for physical inspection. Final verification of a watch’s authenticity, condition and provenance, and the decision whether to buy, remain the responsibility of the buyer.
Price and payment
Each report costs £50.00. VAT is not charged – we are not VAT-registered. Payment is taken at the time you place your order by credit or debit card.
Payments are processed securely by Stripe, one of the world’s leading payment providers. Stripe is certified to PCI DSS Service Provider Level 1 — the highest level of payment-security certification available — and is independently audited against it every year. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe’s encrypted system over a secure connection and are never seen, handled or stored by The Rational Collector.
What you receive and when
You will receive your report as a PDF, delivered by e-mail, WhatsApp, or both – according to your preference. Reports are delivered as quickly as possible and within 24 hours of your order.
Your right to cancel
Because each report is a piece of digital content produced to your personal specification, we begin work as soon as your order is placed. By submitting your order, you agree that we may start immediately and you acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel once the report has been delivered to you.
Reports are normally delivered within 24 hours, so the window for cancellation is short. If you wish to cancel before your report has been delivered, e-mail us at the address above and we will refund you in full. Once your report has been delivered, the order is complete and no refund will be due.
Intellectual property
Copyright in every report belongs to the Rational Collector. When you purchase a report, you may read and use it for your own private purposes. You may not republish, redistribute or resell any report, in whole or in part, without our prior written consent.
Our liability to you
We take care in preparing every report, but our liability is limited as follows:
- Losses from reliance on a report. We accept no liability for any loss arising from reliance on a report, save for any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
- Financial cap. To the extent we are liable to you for any cause arising from or connected with a report, our total liability is limited to the price you paid for that report.
Privacy
When you order a report, we collect your name, e-mail address and mobile number. We use this information solely to prepare and deliver your report and to communicate with you about your order. We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties, except where required by law.
If you subscribe to our mailing list, we use your e-mail address to send you occasional updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer, this does not affect any rights you have under the laws of the country in which you are resident.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time.
General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. A person who is not a party to these terms has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any of them.
